Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can be used like cash to buy eligible food items from authorized retailers. Authorized retailers will display either the Quest logo or a picture of a Virginia EBT card.

A SNAP account is established for eligible households and automatic deposits are made into the account each month. To access the account, they will also receive an EBT Card, which will debit the account each time eligible food items are purchased. A secret Personal Identification Number (PIN) is required to use the card.

Check out the Common Help website Department of Social Services’ SNAP page or for more information on SNAP.

All applications for benefit services may be obtained during our office hours or you may apply for benefits in the following ways. You can apply by fax at 540-727-7584, by mailing an application at your request, apply online at www.dss.virginia.gov or by calling 1-855-635-4370. The application should be completed, including signature, and be returned to the agency as soon as possible as the date that the application is filed with our agency affects the amount of your initial issuance of SNAP formally called food stamps and any other applied benefits. Please be advised that separate rules exist for the SNAP program (formally called food stamps). All households should apply even if other programs have limitations on the receipt of benefits.
