Virginia SNAP Update — October 2025

Governor Glenn Youngkin has declared a State of Emergency to protect Virginians whose SNAP benefits may be affected by the ongoing federal government shutdown.

To ensure continued food assistance, the state has launched the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) program. This temporary support will help current SNAP recipients if the shutdown continues into November.

Key Dates

If the shutdown is not resolved by November 1, 2025, VENA will begin November 3, 2025.
Benefits will be added weekly to existing SNAP EBT cards instead of monthly.
No new application is needed — funds will be loaded directly to your current SNAP card.

Check your balance before shopping.
Use the Lock/Unlock feature to protect your benefits.
Prioritize essential, nonperishable foods.
Use Virginia Fresh Match to double your dollars on fresh produce: virginiafreshmatch.org/locate

Visit the DSS website for a list of local food banks.
Follow Culpeper Human Services on Facebook.
Call 211 for statewide food and support resources.
We will continue to keep the public posted as updates become available.

Actualización de SNAP en Virginia — Octubre de 2025

El gobernador Glenn Youngkin ha declarado un Estado de Emergencia para proteger a los residentes de Virginia cuyos beneficios de SNAP podrían verse afectados por el cierre actual del gobierno federal.

– Self-paying at a hotel
– Couch “surfing” from place to place or temporarily “doubling up” at someone else’s home
– Staying in an emergency shelter
– Staying in an RV or camper not hooked up to utilities
– Sleeping in a car, on the street, or in a place not meant for living

Foothills Housing Network & New Beginnings Outreach Center can assist you with:

– Coordinated entry screening (if you qualify)
– Resource referrals
– Emergency shelter placement

What you can do:

Make sure you’re counted during the week-long 2025 Summer Survey Period (July 21–27) by contacting us and completing a survey.
