Works with trained foster parents—single or married, employed inside or outside the home—who open their homes to children in need. These children are placed in foster care due to risk of abuse or neglect, and foster parents commit to meeting each child’s individual needs. They partner with the child, the agency, and the birth parents to address concerns and support family reunification whenever possible. When a child’s needs cannot be met in a family setting, placement in a residential facility may be considered.

Scan the above QR code to be taken to Family Match, or click here.
These links will take interested families to a 6-step inquiry process in which they will share information about their self and family, their goals, complete assessments, and have access to free training. Once completed, their information will be stored in Family-Match where they will be able to edit and update their family profile. The foster care coordinator at Culpeper Human Services will then be able to review completed profiles.
Adoption
Assists children who have been permanently and legally separated from their birth parents to become permanent members of a new family. The goal of adoption is the third ranking permanency planning goal for Virginian children in foster care. Return of the child to the birth parents is the first goal and placement with relatives with a transfer of custody to the relative is the second goal. The goal of adoption is selected for children in foster care when the two higher-ranking goals cannot be achieved.
Independent Living
Assists foster care youth, ages 16-21, in developing the skills necessary to make the transition from foster care to independent living.
Prevention
Assists families with locating resources to prevent out of home placement for their children. Prevention services can be court ordered.
